POSITION: Construction Laborer
Position reports to: Construction Manager
Employment Classification: Regular; Full Time; Non-exempt
SUMMARY: Under general supervision, this position requires skills necessary for maintenance of a 6,800-mile pipeline water distribution system serving a 17-county area. This position is a physically demanding position and will work in adverse weather conditions.
RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
Assist with maintenance of the pipeline water distribution including:
Putting pipe together (pvc, ductile, poly, copper)
Installing and rebuilding meter pits
Setting meter pit PRV’s to proper pressure
Taking in-house water samples directly from meter pits
Flushing lines (azone lines)
Installing valves, flush hydrants, and yard hydrants
Fixing waterline leaks
Installing drain lines
Rebuilding vaults
Wiring meters
Exercising valves
Replacing valve bolts
Assist with New Construction projects.
Normal work hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Follow all safety protocols.
Other duties as necessary or assigned.
REQUIREMENTS:
Education:
High school diploma or GED required.
Trade school is a plus.
Experience:
Two to three years in a similar position preferred.
Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:
Must have basic knowledge and understanding of construction, excavation, and pipe repair techniques.
Must have excellent and effective interpersonal skills in order to communicate and work with the general public and employees.
Must have good computer skills.
Must have a Class A CDL, current medical exam card, and clean driving record.
Must have the physical ability to lift 70 lbs. routinely and repeatedly; squat, bend, and stand for hours.
Must be able to travel as needed with the ability to work long hours in adverse weather conditions.
Must have the ability to be on-call a minimum of once each month as a part of the weekly on-call coverage.
